The third story which happened to a BTA client, but the insurance company refused to respond and comment on the situation.
Vladimir from Ventspils owned two old houses. The smaller one burned down and the owner received insurance compensation from the company Balta. But, when it was necessary to renew the contract for the remaining building, the company requested not 100 lats for the policy, as it was before, but 300 lats at once. Vladimir went to another insurer – BTA – and insured his property for 100 lats. Subsequently, it also burnt down. The claim for damages was rejected. Official reason – unlawful acts of the third parties. As it turned out, Vladimir’s house was not insured against such risk. A homeless person, who settled in the house, accidentally burned it down. All three stories described above happened to BTA customers, but the company did not respond to our call to comment on these situations.
